Connecting With Educators Through Video Content

Teachers are learners too. Besides carrying a spirit of curiosity throughout their lives, they're also constantly learning new curriculums, lessons plans, all while adapting to new digital tools and administrative practices.

Clever is an identity platform for education, safeguarding student and school data while accelerating learning. They asked for our help creating content for teachers and administrators, but with the direction that authenticity and accuracy is key. Classrooms would need to feel "real," demonstrating that we understand the day-to-day needs of students, teachers and admins alike.

Breaking Down Badge Basics

The classroom is a fast-paced place, and Clever Badges help students access their digital learning tools in a quick, fun way. It was important for us to capture the ease-of-use of the Badges, so it was back to school time for the Demo Duck team!

First, we worked with the client to craft a short script that spoke to all audiences. We then filmed in a real classroom, capturing real students using their digital devices and Clever Badges—with an award-winning performance from a "duckling" to demonstrate the pain points.

We then combined the footage with animation and text to help ensure the product language was clear to the viewer.

Using Video to Champion Clever's CEO

As mentioned earlier, authenticity is key for Clever's audience of teachers and administrators. Education is a world based on people, and face-to-face exchanges that build relationships and trust. When it came time for Clever to share their new mission and thoughts on the educational tech landscape, a simple press release wouldn't suffice—it was important to see and hear from their company's leadership.

Our team flew to North Carolina for a sunny afternoon and filmed Clever's CEO, Trish Sparks, speaking direct-to-camera in a classroom setting. We then added b-roll from the Badges shoot to offer the video a change-of-pace and show young learners in action.

Building a Global Brand

Clever was also looking for a new hero brand video to show at conferences, corporate events and more. The video needed to show how Clever's products empower classrooms not just in America, but around the globe. Since we needed to show a wide mix of classrooms and student scenes, we suggested a video style that mixed stock footage and animation. We then wanted to make sure that the video had an emotional through-line, so we found stock clips that followed a specific student's journey as a recurring motif.

Products for People

Our work with Clever was a nice reminder that the people are just as important as the products. Although these are cutting-edge tech solutions for the classrooms, they exist to make things easier for students and teachers and ultimately foster learning. It was important for us to maintain the balance between communicating the benefits of the tools and showing how they exist alongside real learners and educators.
