Behind the Scenes: Making a Mobile Demo

Mobile Devices

In late April, we had the privilege of creating a trio of demo videos to help Trulia promote their new mobile app for the iPhone, iPad and Droid (see the final iPhone version at the bottom of the page). The idea was to emulate the Apple iPhone commercials, so we brought in the big guns – a lighting professional, a high-end camera and lens and my freshly manicured hands (embarrassing, but true).

After begging my friends at DevBridge to borrow a few phones (and conveniently buying my wife a new iPad 2 for her birthday), we had the devices we needed. The shoot took a full day – half of which was spent transforming the second bedroom in my condo in to a studio. The hardest part, besides trying to keep my hand steady for 5 hours, turned out to be resetting the clock on each device before the start of each take.

While it wasn’t quite the glitz and glamor of Hollywood, it was a fun experience. We’re looking forward to doing plenty more in the days ahead. If you have a mobile app in need of a nice demo video (at startup prices) let us know.

Thanks to everyone involved! Enjoy the show and let us know what you think!
